Equipment a lab actually buys from
R8 Research supplies laboratory glassware, benchtop measuring instruments and labware to schools, workshops, makers and home labs across the United States. We started with a simple frustration: too much lab hardware is either cheap and unreliable or priced for an institution’s purchasing department. We stock the honest middle — durable, accurately made equipment at a fair price, described plainly so you know exactly what you are buying.
How we choose what we sell
Every item in the catalogue is chosen for the working bench, not the display shelf. We favour Type 3.3 borosilicate glass, 304 and surgical stainless steel, and autoclavable polymers, and we say which is which. We sell dry hardware only — empty glassware, instruments and storage — never chemicals or consumables.
The maker’s mark
Each piece carries the R8 Research maker’s mark, applied the way the material takes it best — etched into glass, laser-marked on steel, moulded into polymer. It is small on purpose: the equipment is the point, and the mark just tells you it met our standard before it shipped.

Our standard, plainly stated
Before anything ships it is checked against a simple standard: is the material what we say it is, are the graduations or the scale accurate, is the finish clean, and would we be happy to use it on our own bench? If the answer to any of those is no, it does not go out. That is the whole of the R8 Research maker’s mark — a promise that a piece met that check.
Who we serve
Our customers are teachers setting up a classroom, students and hobbyists building a home bench, makers and small workshops, and researchers who just need reliable hardware without an institutional purchase order. We price and describe everything with those people in mind, and we are glad to put together a bulk quote for a classroom or a lab fit-out — just ask.
Packing and the planet
We pack to protect the product first, and we choose recyclable materials wherever they do that job — paper void-fill and moulded inserts over plastic where we can. It is a small thing, but it is the kind of detail we care about, and it is part of running the sort of supplier we would want to buy from ourselves.
